Antique Nippon Moriage Nappy/Candy or Nut Dish
Antique Nippon Moriage Nappy/Candy or Nut Dish
This dish has remarkable beauty and crasftmanship, partly due to a unique technique that creates a texture over the surface which you can feel when you run your fingertips over it.
The term "Nippon" was used on items exported from Japan between 1891 and 1921, after which the McKinley Tariff Act required "Japan" or "Made in Japan".
The dish features a hand-painted floral design with a raised decorative technique called "moriage," which involves applying slip clay to create a raised effect.
The dish has a distinctive heart or clover shape, a single handle (making it a "nappy" dish), and a ruffled or scalloped edge. It features pink roses, green leaves, and blue accents.
It would also make a gorgeous ring dish.
It is in excellent vintage condition with no dings or cracks found.
